Dear Santa Monica City Council members,
The Board of Santa Monica Mid City Neighbors asks you to support the passage of item 13-C on the June 11th City Council agenda that would temporarily delay further action on "Opportunity Sites" until the Downtown Specific Plan is finalized. Item 13-C would direct the Planning Department to only move forward with Development Agreements whose heights are within the maximum allowed as stated in the 1984 Land Use Element. It has been apparent over the last few months that residents have been excluded in many ways from the meaningful discussion that's needed regarding acceptable height and density limits Downtown. The proposal being considered would allow for more transparency and open discussion and is essential to the creation of a Downtown Specific Plan that truly has public input. The Board of Santa Monica Mid City Neighbors supports Council members Kevin McKeown, Ted Winterer, and Tony Vazquez in this proposal, and we respectfully request that Council members Gleam Davis, Terry O'Day, Bob Holbrook and Mayor Pam O'Connor support it as well.
