Santa Monica Mid City Neighbors Treasurer and Board Member Ellen Hannan works hard on any number of city issues. One concern is the number of tour buses and car carriers that sit idling diesel fumes for long periods of time, either by the curb, or in the case of car carriers, in the median of streets.
Ellen says she's gotten a return call from the city staffer with Transportation Management Services in charge of the permits for tour buses. Ellen says the buses are given an annual permit and are only allowed to stop for 15 minutes for drop-offs and 15 minutes for pickup in specific stops in Downtown Santa Monica. They may park in beach lot #4 only. The beach lot attendant keeps track of them. TMS says buses can lose their permit if violations occur. The permit must be placed in the front window on the left side. Ellen says you can get more information or file a complaint or report a tour bus on your block by calling, 310-458-2201 ext 5318. Transportation Management will follow up and get back to you. Please have the permit number or license plate number and time and date. Ellen is still waiting for callbacks from auto dealerships on the car carrier question. Thanks Ellen!
