Compost has been recognized as a valuable soil amendment for centuries. Use of compost in gardens is an effective way to improve soil health, increase plant production, and reduce the use of water, chemical fertilizers and pesticides. To thank Santa Monica residents for participating in the City’s green cart collection program, every resident qualifies for up to five large burlap coffee sacks of nutrient- rich compost, free of charge. Please bring a shovel, gloves and your own bags or containers if you prefer them to the burlap sacks.
The giveaway will last until 2pm or all of the compost is claimed.

What if there was a way to exchange last year’s costume for another costume, for nothing more than a trip to your local library? Well, that is exactly what will take place on Saturday, October 18th. The Resource Recovery & Recycling Division in partnership with the Fairview Branch Library  will host the 2nd Annual City of Santa Monica Costume Swap. “Old” costumes will be collected a week prior to the event, and on Saturday from 10:00am to 11:30am the doors open and the shopping will begin.
Stop by for facepainting, goodie bags and more!
