MID CITY MUSIC STORE NEEDS YOUR HELP

Dear Members,

    This past week has been tumultuous and hard to bear for many in Santa Monica.  It's hard to hear that looting and vandalism occurred blocks from your home.  Over eighty businesses in Santa Monica were damaged and/or looted.  But it was harder to watch a man's life taken so callously.

    We'll have much to talk about at our next meeting on June 16th, I'm sure. 

    Among those hit hard in our town last week was Santa Monica Music Center, the business that helped Mid City Neighbors create our Annual Make Music Day Events six years ago.  They've been around for decades and lost it all in minutes, over thirty people in the store looting.

    I believe that it is important to remember that these events transpired in less than one week's time following a grave injustice.  I saw the image posted for the Sunday demonstration and there is no organization mentioned at all.

    Santa Monica Music Center helped Mid City Neighbors' efforts to start providing FREE music to the neighborhood on a grand summer day back in 2014 (and ever since.)  Our organization cannot provide the kind of financial support that they need right now but perhaps our membership can.  Here is a link to their GoFundMe page:https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-the-santa-monica-music-center?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1

    Many residents have been out helping our businesses clean up and recover.  Many are the same ones who marched on that Sunday to express their support for true civil rights in this country.  I considered myself an Advanced Midwestern Liberal when I moved to LA at 37 but I had never heard of Juneteenth until I moved to Santa Monica at 42.  Santa Monican's do care.

    But I'm open to suggestions.
