MIDCITY URGES SOLAR ADDITIONS

Planning Commissioners,
I reviewed the document you have been asked to sign and I noticed that there is no mention whatsoever of the requirement that solar power be collected from this site in exchange for moving forward with this intensification of use.  I was at the initial meeting for this and distinctly recall pointing out that there was plenty of room for solar on this rooftop.  Why are they being allowed to get out of this requirement?  Did city staff decide that it wasn't necessary even though it was demanded by the Planning Commission?  How is it that these little details get left out but no city employee ever gets taken to task for it?  (I've cc'd our mayor and city manager so they can discuss this last item with the director of our planning department.  I bet I never get an answer.)

I've added a photo that shows how much space is available for solar on that rooftop.

As you can see roughly 20-25% of the rooftop area is being used for HVAC and other equipment.  And it is even all centrally located instead of scattered about the rooftop.  I believe the applicant's attorney remarked that there "Simply is not enough room for solar on the roof."  That was either deliberate ignorance or a blatant lie.  Please demand that solar be put back into the equation for this project and I respectfully request that the amount be doubled due to this intentional and duplicitous action of omission.

City Clerk please include this email as part of the official record.

Andrew Hoyer
SMMCN Board President

PS - I'm fairly certain that Richard McKinnon has been the Chair of the Planning Commission for some time now.  Why does the city's website not reflect that fact?
